'Madonna II" represents another interpretation of the old Maria figure. Traditionally the hands of Maria are often opened in a inviting gesture towards the sky or folded for prayer in front of her breast.
In this sculpture the hands are folded on her back. At first view one can make the mistake to think the face is hidden behind the scarf. The attention is directed towards the hands. Viewing the other side of the statue one notices that also the face is closed in itself, the eyes oriented inwards.
